Monster by Walter Dean Myers

Steve Harmon is a sixteen year old black male that is accused of murder during a robbery that he was involved in. He gets thrown in a juvenile detention center, and he starts to write a diary, like a movie screenplay. He writes it like a movie because none of this feels real to him. He tells his experience in his jail cell, his emotions, and tips on how to survive in jail, but he mostly describes fear. He also writes what his trial is like and what everybody is saying during the trial. This book might be scary for some people because the book talks about suicide, and people getting beat up. For example on page two the book said that if you want to cry in jail you have to do it at night because that is when someone else is getting beat up for crying and your noise is getting blocked out. I haven't finished the book, but so far it is really good because the book is easy to read and the trial and his life are very suspenseful. You think you know what's going to happen but then it doesn't happen.
