The book, "To Kill A Mocking Bird" by Harper Lee is a novel. It was set in the 1930's in the south. The main character, Scout, who is the narrator of the story lives in Maycomb, a city in the south. She lives with Jem, her brother and Atticus, her father, a lawyer. They also have a maid named Calpurnia who does the cooking and cleaning. Calpurnia is actually more than a maid in Scout's house, she acts like a mother. She disciplines Scout and Jem and teaches them etiquette's. Also Scout has a best friend named Dill, who is the same age as Scout. Dill is the goofy, lying, and upbeat character of this book.
This book is about Atticus who tries to defend a black person named Tom Robinson, and the people in Maycomb county are not happy about it. Once, there was a lynch mob just outside of Tom Robinson's prison cell. Atticus being the good person he is, protects Tom Robinson while risking his life. I'm up to chapter 17, and Atticus is conducting the trial. So far the trial looks good and Atticus is doing great, however, the jury is an ALL WHITE jury so things might change. This book is based on Harper Lee's childhood and the Scottsbrough nine case. Most of the characters in her book are from her neighborhood as as child.
This is a great book because it's funny and exiting at the same time. I recommend this book to everyone. Even a science-fiction person will like this book.
